Music in the cave of Clos Pegase
A string quintet playing Schubert capped off the Music in the Vineyards concert to rousing applause in the cave theater at Clos Pegase Winery on Sunday.
The acoustics carried the tiniest little pluck of violin strings to the back of the cave during the string quartet’s performance of Luigi Boccherini’s string quartet in E-flat major, op. 58, No. 2.
The concert started with Trio in C minor for flute, violin and continuo by Joachim Quantz and concluded with Franz Schubert’s String quintet in C major, D. 956. Bart Feller, the flutist who played the Quantz piece, demonstrated the sound difference between a solid metal flute mouthpiece with a wood mouthpiece, as would have been used when Quantz wrote the music.
Patrons strolled about the courtyard and grounds of the winery during intermission, sipping on rosé and pinot noir. The concert, which started at 5 p.m., moved into the early evening as the sun started its decline.
The concert was one of several in the series of Music in the Vineyards.
